NCVGA Tournament Rules and Policies

The NCVGA Tournament Policies are developed to enhance the experiences of all participants in our tournaments. The policies are adopted mainly from the governing USGA/NCGA tournament policies. Players are responsible to know these policies in advanced of the tournaments, unless explicitly stated otherwise at the venue by tournament officials.

  1. Rules of Golf:

Tournament will follow the USGA Rules of Golf and any Local Rules in effect unless otherwise stated.

  2. Starting Tee-time and Tournament Handicap:

Players are responsible to know their starting tee-times and their tournament handicaps before the tournament. Players will receive their pairings, starting tee-times and tournament handicaps 3 days before the tournament. Players are expected to be at their assigned tee box 10 minutes before their starting tee-time for announcement of local rules, introduction to fellow competitors or opponents, preparation and exchange of official scorecards.

Penalty: One stroke penalty to the first hole if a player arrives at the first assigned tee box less than 5 minutes before the assigned tee-time.

  3. Pace-of-Play:

Players will finish all plays before the maximum allowable time as determined by the course, typically 4 hours 45 minutes. All players in a group are responsible to know their positions on the course and to resolve any delay regardless of who is the slow player in the group.

Penalty: Two stroke penalties to the last hole score to all players in a group if they turn in the scorecards after 15 minutes of the maximum allowable time of the course, or in case of delay from the group ahead, after 15 minutes of the group ahead turned in their scorecards.

Penalty: Disqualification if a player turns in his/her scorecard after 30 minutes of the maximum allowable time, or in case of delay from the group ahead, after 30 minutes of the group ahead turned in their scorecard. Exceptions can only be made on special circumstances and as determined by the Tournament Director.

  4. Scorecards and Score Keeping:

    a. At the first tee box, players exchange their official scorecards to another fellow competitor of the same flight who will be responsible for marking the Gross Score in each hole. If no fellow competitor of the same flight in the group, a marker will be designated, as no player will mark his/her own official scorecard.

    b. Players will mark the total strokes taken to finish a hole (for example 4, 5, 3, etc.), not over or under the stipulated par (Not 0, +1, -1, etc.). If a player cannot finish a hole or pickup, that player’s gross score will be a double par on that hole.

    c. At the end of the round, players return and review the scorecards with their markers. Players will resolve any dispute before sign off on both scorecards.

    d. Players are responsible for the accuracy of their own official scorecards and for turning in their own official scorecards timely as per the pace-of-play policy.

Penalty: Disqualification for any non-compliance scorecard. If there is error on the score of any hole, applicable USGA rules and penalties will govern.

  5. Prizes and Awards:

    a. Only members in good standing are eligible for the annual NCVGA Cup, Low Gross and Low Net awards and prizes.

    b. All tournament participants, members and guests, are eligible to win prizes for the other contests such as Closest to the Pin, Long Drive, Skins or Second-to-Last unless otherwise explicitly announced by the tournament officials.
