NCVGA Handicap System

Description:

The NCVGA Handicap System is developed to enhance the experiences of all participants in our tournaments by ensuring a certain level of fairness in our competition, given our lack-of or inadequacy in self-policing the scores postings among the members. The system is adopted mainly from the governing USGA/NCGA handicap policies and pracices. Players are responsible to know their tournament handicaps in advanced of the tournaments.

Tournament Handicap Index

The handicap index used in our club tournaments will be the LOWER of either:

  1. The current official handicap index OR,

  2. The handicap index as determined per USGA 2024 Handicap Rules 5.2 but using the Competition Differentials (CA or CH) instead of players’ own postings (A or H) within the last 12 months.

  3. See attached USGA 2025 Handical Rule 5.2 below:

4. For examples:

a. Member A’s GHIN is 4.7, the handicap index using his Competition Differentials only is 2.1, then his tournament handicap index in club tournament will be 2.1.

b. Member B’s GHIN is 16.1, the handicap index using his Competition Differentials only is 18.2, then his tournament handicap index in club tournament will be 16.1.

Exception

In a few instances where a member does not yet have his/her handicap established (NH), the Tournament Director, at his sole discretion, can assign a tournament handicap index to be used in a club tournament.
